WHAT ARE THEY
Do you have a circle of friendships that you are “doing life with?”
Do you have people in your life you can call when you just need to talk?
Do you have people in your life you can call when you celebrate?
We believe that sustained spiritual life change happens best in the context of community and intentional relationships. The first step in getting connected with a group of people who will “do life together” is a connection time we call Group Life. At 9:30 am every Sunday, you can come and connect with people in a casual environment including music, coffee, good food, and good conversation. You will find many people who are already in a group, as well as, people who are just looking for fellowship.
Success at Haviland Friends Church is defined by how effectively our ministries move people from church on Sunday to a passionate life in Christ through relationships and
We believe intentional relationships are key to sustained spiritual growth. That’s why group life is such an important part of our discipleship strategy. In a community group, people intentionally study God’s Word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life together. It’s also where you will find people who pray for each other, care for one another, and are cared for when they are gone.
The truth is this, there will never be a way for the staff or elders to personally minister to everyone who attends our church. That is why we place such a high priority on group life. It’s how we minister effectively at HFC. To find out more about community groups, we encourage you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for Group Life. You may also pick up printed material at the welcome stand, or simply email our office at email@example.com.
What is a Community Group?
Community Groups are small groups of six married couples or eight individuals of the same gender that meet weekly in someone’s home for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. They are for adults and students of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.
What kinds of community groups are there?
Community groups comprised of married couples in the same stage of life (couples without children, with children, and empty nesters) and area.
Men and Women:
Men and women can join same-gender, singles-only groups or various stages of life groups (married, single, divorced, and widowed).
College, High School, and Jr. High
Is childcare provided for each group meeting?
Childcare is not provided, but we do have a list of qualified babysitters you can contact.
When and where do groups meet?
The beauty about community groups is the freedom they have to meet whenever and wherever it’s convenient. While most groups meet in the evenings during the week at someone’s home, we do have groups that meet on Sundays at the church or in a home. We really don’t believe its all that important when you meet, we just want you to get in a group and meet.
How often do community groups meet?
Most groups meet weekly. Some groups meet for three weeks out of the month and either take off the fourth week or do a social activity or service project together. Due to vacation schedules, groups consisting of married couples with children often do not meet during the summer.
What goes on at a group meeting?
Though each group differs in how they do things, many groups have a social time in the beginning with food, then they transition to a time where they study the sermon passage for the week, or a book study, and pray for each other. At the very beginning of the group, the whole group decides how much time they will spend on social, discussion, and prayer time, as well as, the order in which they take place.
What is the first step in joining a community group?
